Tube maintenance workers have voted “overwhelmingly” to strike over new rosters and the outsourcing of work to external contractors, the RMT union has said.
The RMT accused London Underground (Metronet) management of “unilaterally ripping up agreements, bulldozing through shift patterns that treat staff like slabs of meat that can be pulled off the shelf when it suits managers and threatening job security through increased use of outside contractors”.
But LU called the strike threat “ludicrous” and said that the union had balloted 750 workers when only 30 staff rosters were under discussion. In a statement it claimed the RMT was prepared to disrupt Londoners to get more overtime pay.
This gorgeous piece of hardware is the Elekit Tube Amplifier, designed by Koichi Futatsumata. I’ve always been obsessed with tube amps but I’ve never seen one look this good. Of course, it would look best if the rest of your furniture is of a similar spec — which is not the case for me — but maybe this is so amazing that it can elevate even the most drab of living spaces with its sexy minimalism. The only problem is that I want to buy it right now and it appears to be impossible. I find way too many concept pieces that look amazing but never find their way into the marketplace. At least this one looks like it might eventually be for sale.
How do you get to Television City? Yes, there really is such a place. But carving a path there has nothing to do with your ability to write a script, or the number of lines from “Mannix” or “One Day at a Time” you can quote from memory.

WELCOME TO TELEVISION CITY: After your focus group, hit up the souvenir stand.
All you need to do is walk through the casinos and alongside the shops of Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Hotel, past a high-end margarita stand and a luxury eyeglass store, and stroll along a corridor that’s lit by colorful logos for MTube Tv, Nickelodeon and the CW. If you’re there at the right moment, you might take part in a focus group or survey that lets CBS — or a marketer, ad agency, content player or technology concern — learn how you react to content and advertising.
